Haulage Terms

Collection and delivery of every marketplace trade is performed by an independent haulier from the platform’s haulier network. Hauliers are independent businesses: they contract directly with the buyer and seller to carry the animals, they hold their own licences and insurance, including public liability cover for livestock in their custody, and they are not employees or agents of Farm Fayre. Farm Fayre facilitates the connection, the scheduling and the payment of the haulage within settlement; it is not the carrier and performs no transport.

The trade completes on the certified weighbridge weight, recorded handovers and a clean chain of custody. That only works when an independent professional carries the animals and records the facts both parties rely on: it is what lets money release fairly, and what lets an issue be resolved on evidence rather than argument. For marketplace trades, transport is part of the deal, and is charged as shown before you commit.

Once the buyer’s funds have landed in full, the haulier is engaged and both parties receive their collection and delivery windows, refined as the job approaches, with notice the day before. Sellers have the cattle ready with the cards; buyers are present or represented to receive. Both parties provide safe, secure, well-maintained loading and unloading facilities and take reasonable care that the haulier is never put in harm’s way. Where a party’s failure to be ready causes a failed or aborted collection or delivery, the costs of that failure rest with that party.

By Weight lots are weighed on a certified weighbridge and the figures are recorded on the Platform with supporting images, visible to both parties. The haulier weighs the empty vehicle and the loaded vehicle on the same certified weighbridge and records both figures with docket images; the net weight, less the settling percentage shown in the checkout figures, is the settlement weight. These acts are performed by the haulier on certified instruments; Farm Fayre records the results and is never the certifying authority.

If either party considers a recorded weight is materially wrong, they may request of the haulier, within the 24-hour issue window (buyer) or at collection (seller), that the weighbridge certificate be produced.

Hauliers agree to handle livestock calmly and lawfully, never to transport animals unfit for travel, and to clean and disinfect between jobs. Every farm visited is private: hauliers are bound to confidentiality about everything they see, to strict limits on recording, and to data protection obligations, under their agreement with Farm Fayre.

The haulier is responsible for the animals in its custody from loading to unloading. Every haulier on the Platform holds full livestock haulage insurance for that responsibility as a condition of working with Farm Fayre. Farm Fayre is not the carrier and is not liable for loss, injury, delay or dispute arising from the transport itself. Issues arising on delivery are handled through the issue process in the User Agreement.
